Wall Awareness

Hanani, one of my brothers, came from Judah with some other men, and I questioned them about the jewish remnant that survived the exile, and also about Jerusalem. They said to me, "Those who survived the exile and are back in the province are in great trouble and disgrace. The wall of Jerusalem is broken down, and its gates have been burned with fire." Neh. 1:2, 3

The major problem with repairing the walls is that we are removed from them. It is our natural tendancy not to visit the broken down walls...even in our memories. When Nehemiah heard about the broken down walls he was 1500 miles from them. What was it about Nehemiah that made him ask about the remnant and the walls?

Have we gotten so careless with even our memories of the poor, hungry, troubles, disgraced that we have stopped even being concerned about them. Have we moved away physically but also emotionally and mentally. Perhaps more concerning have we moved away from them spiritually?

What is 52 days?

"So the wall was completed in fifty-two days. When our enemies heard about this, all the nations were afraid and lost their self-confidence, because they realized that this work was done with the help of our God." Nehemiah 6:15, 16

Fifty-two days is just a period of time, but it is a historic event with current impact. When Nehemiah, who heard about the walls of his hometown being broken down and the people there being in disgrace, returned to repair the walls - he accomplished the repair in 52 days.

What needs to be repaired in your hometown? Why don't you lead a team to repair it?
